South Valley are You Ready for Winter Weather?

There is no doubt about it, FALL is in the air. Being here in Utah that usually means just a few more weeks before the snow flies. Don’t find yourself unprepared when winter hits. That means it is time to begin winterizing our homes. Here is a quick run down of some items you don’t want to miss. With just a little time invested now you can save a lot of headache later.

Get your furnace serviced.

Replace your furnace filters.


Make sure your Smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors have new batteries and are working.

Check chimney’s for any obstructions.

Clean the chimney to remove any creosote build up.

Check gas fireplaces to ensure they light correctly.

Turn down your water heater to 120 degrees and use a water heater blanket.


Clean out your rain gutters.

Inspect your roof for any missing or loose shingles.

Drain water hoses and insulate exposed pipes as needed.


Winterize sprinklers. (watch for details in a future post)


Clean outside of A/C unit to remove leaves and debris. Cover with protective material.

Make sure your snow shovels or blowers are in good repair and easy to access.

Have a stock of Icemelt or rock salt on hand.

Replace weather stripping around doors and windows.


Reverse your ceiling fans to help circulate the warm air from the ceiling to reheat the room.


Last but not least make sure your stock of hot chocolate and cheesy romance movies is ready for the cold nights that lie ahead!
